A Message from Our Chairman

S.U. Haider, CEO & Chairman

It is with immense pride and gratitude that I address you as the Chairman of Island Trading Corp (ITC). Our journey began with a simple yet powerful vision: to transform the lives of rural artisans, particularly women, by creating sustainable economic opportunities through the age-old craft of cane and bamboo weaving.

For decades, Bangladesh has been home to master craftsmen whose intricate handiwork with natural materials has been passed down through generations. However, these skilled artisans often lacked access to fair markets and sustainable income. Island Trading Corp was founded to bridge this gap, connecting the exceptional talent of our rural communities with discerning customers in Europe and North America.

Today, we are proud to work with over 500 artisans across rural Bangladesh, 75% of whom are women who have found economic independence and social recognition through their craft. Our products—ranging from traditional cane and bamboo baskets to contemporary home furnishing items like Nakshi Kantha, cushion covers, and wall hangings—carry with them stories of empowerment, tradition, and sustainable craftsmanship.

As we export to more than 15 countries, we remain committed to our founding principles: fair trade practices, environmental sustainability through 100% natural materials, and the preservation of Bangladesh's rich cultural heritage. Every product we create is not just a handicraft; it is a testament to the skill, dedication, and dreams of the artisans who pour their hearts into their work.

Our evolution from traditional basket weaving to contemporary home furnishing reflects our commitment to innovation while honoring tradition. We continuously adapt to market trends, introducing creative designs that appeal to modern sensibilities without compromising the authentic handcrafted character that makes our products unique.

The challenges we've overcome have only strengthened our resolve. From establishing quality control systems that meet international standards to building a supply chain that ensures fair compensation for every artisan, we have worked tirelessly to create a business model that is both profitable and purposeful.

Looking ahead, our vision extends beyond commerce. We aim to become a model for how businesses can drive positive social change while maintaining commercial viability. We envision expanding our artisan network, introducing new product lines that showcase Bangladesh's diverse craft traditions, and strengthening our presence in existing markets while exploring new ones.

I invite you to join us in this journey of empowerment and excellence. When you choose Island Trading Corp, you're not just purchasing a product—you're supporting rural families, preserving centuries-old traditions, and contributing to a more sustainable and equitable world. Together, we can prove that business success and social responsibility are not mutually exclusive, but rather complementary forces for positive change.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership. I look forward to collaborating with you as we write the next chapter of Island Trading Corp's story—a story of craftsmanship, empowerment, and sustainable growth.
